Whew ya'll. These first few meetings have been...well, beautiful. This project is revealing that the most important thing to us in this seasoned space - in this self identifying BIPOC space - is finding, helping create, and being in community. Doing this takes time. It's takes learning how to build with; learning how to see, and understand, and support each other. It's no easy feat.
For this project, community is forming organically and truthfully, loudly and softly. It is full of life. Its a space to sharpen and affirm. It provides an "amen" corner and a "yes/and" corner. It vibrates with appreciated silence and bubbles of "oooo, I got something to say too." Each community is different based on who makes it up and their sensibilities. This BIPOC community is full of intelligent, down-to-earth, big hearted artists who are appreciating each other and this space: a space for us to talk-that-talk from a place of honesty and love. Love for our communities, ourselves, and the visions of what society can be if more spaces like this were real in our day-to-day lives. Here's to our visions.
